While reading an article on arabs (jews and non-jews) on Manchester i came across the following passage: "two years after the founding of the S&P synagogue in Cheetham Hill Road in north Manchester in 1872, the Aleppo jews were expelled as heretics or karaite, and established the separate arab synagogue at Old Lansdowne Road in south Manchester". I can't remember the name of the article (i took a ...

It happened that I bought the short but wonderful biography of rev Henry Pereira Mendes by rev David de Sola Pool and it is dedicated to someone i think his name is Fink. I am sharing with you the dedication of Abraham Piza Mendes (rev Henry's son).I am sure that someone here know who is she or he that Henry's son dedicated it to.PS: Why his name was Piza Mendes and not Pereira Mendes Piza?

Now I am intent on a book offered by a group of friends and his supporters. If you are from Bueno...
It came to me this letter from 1957 by the president of the (aleppan) syrian community from Buenos Aires to the rabbi of the ashkenazi community (also from Buenos Aires), to communicate that hakham Solomon Gaon will arrive in a week.Basically, the letter is about Hakham Gaon visiting central and Sud America under the auspices of the World Sephardic Federation to select students that can go to Rams...
I have seen many pictures and videos in these forums and in many other books, etc on how sephardim wear the talet like a shawl. But a rabbi of my community, Sacca, went to Amsterdam (less than 10 years ago) and some people told him that the proper way to use it is like these pictures below. Maybe both are correct. Maybe not. I would appreciate it if you could shed some light on this topic.
This picture is from "The Sephardim" by Rabbi Abraham Levy and Lucien Gubbay.Does anyone know about this meeting and their results?Besides the more famous like Hacham Gaguine, both Montefiore and Sassoon I think i recognize names like Rabbi Nissim Ovadia and Ovadia Camhy (which i think both appear in the book by Joseph Papo), Paul goodman and Rev Jessurun cardozo authors of "think and thank", prof...
